Developmental Therapy is a discipline that looks at a child’s development globally, or across all five areas of development. These are cognitive skills, language and communication, social-emotional skills and behavior, gross and fine motor skills, and self-help skills. Developmental Therapists design, modify, and implement therapeutic interventions for the child and family to promote functional independence, acquisition of skills, and full participation at home and in the community.
The Developmental Therapist functions as a support and consultant to the family and caregivers on working therapeutic interventions into their routines daily for the benefit of the child and family.
Developmental Therapy is based in family routines such as mealtimes, bath time, bed time, play time, and getting ready in the morning. It brings therapeutic interventions into the family routines seamlessly and naturally.
